Cytogenetic Techniques
Cytogenetic Techniques are laboratory-based procedures used to study the structure and organization of chromosomes and their associated genetic material. Cytogenetics encompass a range of techniques including karyotyping, Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH), and Chromosome painting. These techniques are used to understand the genetic underpinnings of multiple biological processes such as reproduction, human diseases, and genetic abnormalities. Cytogenetic techniques are powerful tools in the identification, diagnosis and treatment of gene-based diseases, research into human evolution, and the development of new genetic therapies. In addition, they are also used in forensic analysis for the identification of biological samples.
