Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a procedure that replaces damaged or diseased cells in the blood and immune system with healthy ones, most often obtained from a donor. This treatment can be used to treat a variety of illnesses such as leukemia, lymphomas and multiple myeloma. It is an important medical technique as it can treat diseases that were previously difficult to treat and can also be used to replace bone marrow that has been damaged by chemotherapy. HSCT can provide hope to those suffering from previously untreatable conditions, allowing them to lead longer and healthier lives.
