Sh2 Domain
The SH2 domain is a specialized protein domain found in many proteins involved in cellular signalling. It is a short protein-binding motif of approximately 100 amino acids in length that is essential for the proper functioning of a wide variety of processes within cells. By binding to specific phosphotyrosines in target proteins, the SH2 domain can activate, inhibit or modify the activity of signalling pathways. It is thought to contribute to many complex cellular activities, ranging from growth and development, to cell cycle regulation and apoptosis. SH2 domains are also often associated with disease states and are potential therapeutic targets for the development of new drugs.
