Macrophages
Macrophages are a type of white blood cell that serve an important role in the immune system. They are responsible for identifying, engulfing and digesting foreign material, including pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and other unwanted materials. They can also help to initiate an inflammatory response and recruit other cells to help remove the foreign material. Macrophages play an important role in keeping the body healthy and protecting it from infection.
