Blastomeres

Blastomeres are the cells that make up an early-stage animal embryo, usually four- to eight-cell embryos. They are the initial cells that make up an embryo and undergo a process of differentiation, giving rise to all specialized cells that make up a mature individual. Blastomeres are thought to play an important role in embryo development, as their cellular organization and communication is fundamental for proper embryonic growth. In addition, blastomeres are the source material for stem cell research and regenerative medicine, which hold the promise of providing treatments for diseases, such as diabetes and cancer, in the future.
