Journal of Bioinformatics and Diabetes welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers working across computational and data-driven biology and the science of diabetes and metabolic disease.
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year.

What the journal is looking for
The invitation is as wide as the journal’s title. A manuscript does not need a novel algorithm, and it does not need a clinical intervention.
- Analysis of biological data
- Genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic studies, and the statistical or machine-learning methods applied to them.
- Methods, algorithms and resources
- New methods, benchmarking studies, databases, annotation and analysis workflows, described so they can be reused.
- Mechanistic and experimental work
- Studies of insulin action, glucose metabolism, oxidative stress and the tissues diabetes affects, in cell and animal models.
- Clinical and population research
- Diagnosis, measurement, management and outcomes in type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes and its complications.
- Translational studies
- Work that carries a mechanism, a model or a dataset toward practice, with the evidence that supports the step.
- Appraisal of published evidence
- Work that draws together what has been reported and says plainly where the evidence is strong and where it is thin.
The full boundary is set out in the Aims and Scope. Manuscripts are assessed against that remit and against the evidence they present, not against the topics the journal has published before.
What you can submit
Seven types are open for unsolicited submission, across the whole of the remit above.
- iResearch Article — A full report of original work: the question, what was done, what was found and what follows from it.
- iiReview Article — A critical synthesis of published work on a defined question, saying where the evidence is strong and where it is thin.
- iiiSystematic Review and Meta-analysis — A review carried out to a stated protocol, reporting the search, the selection of studies and, where applicable, the quantitative synthesis.
- ivMethods Article — A new or substantially improved method, algorithm, analysis pipeline or laboratory protocol, described so that another group can apply it.
- vData/Resource Article — A dataset, database, software tool or other resource, described together with how it was produced and how it can be reused.
- viShort Communication — A concise report of a finding that stands on its own.
- viiCase Report — A clinical case or short series, presented for what it shows.
Editorial and Perspective/Commentary are commissioned by the editors. They are not part of the routine unsolicited submission categories.
A bioinformatics or data-oriented manuscript does not need a diabetes component to be eligible, and a diabetes or metabolic manuscript does not need a new computational method. Each is assessed on its own terms within the journal’s remit.
How your manuscript will be handled
The same terms apply to every submission, whichever route it arrives by.
Screening
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Review
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Decision
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Publication
Accepted work is published open access, with a registered identifier and deposited metadata, and is free to read on publication.
