Propose a Special Issue
Journal of Bioinformatics and Diabetes welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions across bioinformatics and diabetes and metabolic science. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the proposal requirements below and contact the editorial office.

What makes a good proposal
A collection earns its place when it gathers work that would otherwise be scattered, around a question the field is actively arguing about.
- A defined question
- A theme narrow enough to give the collection a shape, and wide enough that more than one group can contribute to it.
- Fit with the remit
- A substantive connection to computational and data-driven biology, to diabetes and metabolic science, or to the ground between them. The boundary is set out in the Aims and Scope.
- Guest editors
- One or more researchers with a publication record in the proposed area, and the time to handle submissions through review.
- Expected contributions
- An indication of the groups likely to submit and the kinds of evidence the collection would carry.
- Timeline
- A proposed period for submissions, agreed with the editorial office before the collection opens.
- Rationale
- Why a collection rather than individual articles: what the reader gains from having these papers together.
How a collection is governed
A special issue is held to the journal’s standards, not to a lighter set. These safeguards are what make a collection worth publishing in.
The same review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
The same decisions
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Guest-editor conflicts
A guest editor’s own submission to the collection is handled by an independent editor, and guest editors recuse themselves from any manuscript where they hold a competing interest.
Editorial oversight
The journal’s editors oversee the collection throughout and retain the final decision on every manuscript in it.
How to propose a collection
Proposals are read by the editorial office and discussed with the journal’s editors.

- iiInclude the proposed guest editors, with affiliations and a short statement of relevant expertise.
- iiiIndicate the contributions you expect and the period you have in mind.
- ivExpect a conversation: scope, timing and governance are settled with the editors before a collection opens.
