Oxygen Exchange
Oxygen exchange is a vital process in living organisms, as it is needed for the production of energy and for the removal of poisonous waste such as carbon dioxide. It involves the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between an organism and its environment. In humans and other mammals, oxygen exchange is accomplished through respiration, which is the process of inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide. In fish and other aquatic creatures, oxygen exchange is accomplished through their gills, which absorb dissolved oxygen and release carbon dioxide produced by the organism. By exchanging these gases, organisms are able to sustain life and continue to perform metabolic functions. Oxygen exchange is essential for human health and for the ecosystems of the planet.
