Barium Swallow Test
A barium swallow test is a medical imaging procedure in which a patient ingests a contrast solution containing barium, a metallic compound. This solution coats the patient's throat and esophagus, which are then imaged with an x-ray scanner. The test helps diagnose possible digestive problems such as obstruction or narrowing, hiatal hernia, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It can also be used to detect tumors and other abnormalities in the gastrointestinal tract. The test is non-invasive, simple, and usually well-tolerated by the patient. As such, it is a valuable tool for diagnosing and monitoring digestive health.
