Barrett's Esophagus

Barrett's esophagus is a condition caused by prolonged reflux of stomach acid into the lower end of the esophagus. It is often associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). While it does not usually cause any symptoms, it is linked to an increased risk of the development of a type of cancer known as esophageal adenocarcinoma. Early diagnosis can lead to more effective treatments, which is why routine screening by a physician is recommended. Treatment may include lifestyle modifications, medications, endoscopic treatments, and, in some cases, surgery.
