Bedsores

Bedsores, also known as pressure sores, are areas of damaged skin that occur when the skin has been subjected to unrelieved pressure. They most often occur on bony areas of the body, including the hips, tailbone, elbows, and heels, where the bone is very close to the surface of the skin. They can be extremely painful and, if not treated promptly and properly, can become infected and lead to other health complications. Bedsores are a serious health concern for people who are confined to bed or chair, such as those with paralysis, prolonged bed rest, or long-term illness. Prevention and treatment of bedsores should include pressure relief, good nutrition, and maintaining proper skin hygiene.
