Ulcer Prophylaxis
Ulcer prophylaxis is a form of preventative medicine that aims to minimize the risk of developing ulcers by reducing acidity in the stomach. It typically involves taking medications that reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach, or medications that protect the stomach lining from the effects of acid. In people with an increased risk of developing ulcers, such as those taking anti-inflammatory medications or those who have a prior history of ulcers, ulcer prophylaxis is essential for reducing the risk of complications such as bleeding and infection. Ulcer prophylaxis is an important part of managing ulcer risk in high-risk populations and should be discussed with a health care provider.
