Six kinds of service, six different jobs
Identifiers, DOI registration, metadata harvesting, discovery services, selective indexing and preservation each do something specific. This page sets out what each one does for this journal.
Journal identifiers
An ISSN is the standard identifier for a serial publication, assigned through the international ISSN network. Its job is identification: it lets catalogues, citation systems and library records refer to the journal unambiguously. Where a journal identifier applies, this page shows it with the register that issued it.
DOI registration
A DOI is the persistent identifier registered with Crossref for an individual article. Its job is citation and linking: it keeps a reference resolvable wherever the article is hosted, and carries the article's metadata to the services that draw on Crossref.
Metadata harvesting
Verified. The publisher operates an OAI-PMH 2.0 repository, and this journal's metadata is openly harvestable from it. The journal's set is journal:nervous-system-and-physiological-phenomena at openaccesspub.org/oai, which any aggregator or library system may harvest. Checked 24 September 2026.
Discovery services

Deposit and preservation routes
Two routes exist alongside the journal's own publication, and both are stated in the publisher's terms.
PubMed Central
Eligible NIH-funded manuscripts may be deposited individually in PubMed Central through the NIH Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS).
This route is a funder obligation met by the author for an individual manuscript, and it places that manuscript in PubMed Central.
Portico
