Helicobacter Pylori Infection
Helicobacter pylori infection is a type of bacterial infection caused by the Gram-negative bacterium Helicobacter pylori. It is often asymptomatic but can lead to severe gastric disorders such as peptic ulcer and gastritis. H. pylori has been linked to the development of stomach cancer and is associated with health problems such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease. The infection is commonly found in developing countries and is transmitted through contact with infected individuals or contaminated food or water. Treatment is usually a combination of antibiotics, acid blockers and proton pump inhibitors. Diagnosis requires a stool sample or endoscopy, which examines the inner lining of the stomach and duodenum. The infection can be prevented through improved food hygiene and sanitation.
