Call for Papers

Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams working across child and adolescent psychiatry. Late-adolescent and transition-to-adult-care work is welcome when the adolescent or developmental question is central.

What the journal is looking for

Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year. The examples below show the range the journal covers; they are illustrations, not a checklist.
Development and mechanism
Longitudinal and cohort studies of emotional, behavioral and cognitive development; risk and protective factors; neurodevelopmental, genetic and family processes.
Assessment and measurement
Validation of instruments for young people, cross-cultural adaptation, diagnostic accuracy, and measurement that holds across ages and informants.
Clinical research and treatment
Trials and observational studies of psychotherapeutic, psychosocial and pharmacological interventions; clinical description; case reports that teach something transferable.
Services, prevention and policy
Access to and organization of care; school, family and community settings; prevention and early identification; ethics and policy affecting young people.
Formats

What we welcome

Submissions are invited in any of the journal’s seven routine formats.
  • Research Article
    Empirical studies presenting novel findings.
  • Review Article
    A scholarly review of a topic, setting out what is established and where the open questions lie.
  • Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
    Evidence synthesis conducted to a pre-specified protocol.
  • Methods Article
    A study design, measure, instrument or analytical approach presented so that others can apply it.
  • Data/Resource Article
    A dataset, cohort or research resource described so that others can use it.
  • Short Communication
    Preliminary findings or focused studies.
  • Case Report
    Instructive clinical case presentations.

Editorial and Perspective/Commentary are published by invitation from the editors.

Preparing

Before you send it

Word limits and preparation requirements for each format are set out on the author instructions page, together with the ethics documentation the journal requires for research involving minors.

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.

Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.

Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.

The article processing charge of USD 2,100 applies after acceptance. Editorial decisions are independent of fees, services, membership, and editorial or reviewer roles.
