Propose a special issue
Journal of Nervous System and Physiological Phenomena welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in nervous-system structure, function and physiological phenomena. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the proposal requirements below and contact the editorial office.

Proposing a collection
A good proposal makes the scientific case for grouping the work, and shows who will organize it.
What a proposal should contain
- The question the collection is organized around, and why it needs a collection rather than individual articles.
- The guest editors, with their affiliations and their work in the area.
- The article types expected and an indication of scale.
- A timetable for the call, submission and review.
How a collection is reviewed
A special issue is a grouping of articles, not a separate standard. Every manuscript in a collection is screened and reviewed on the journal's ordinary terms.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Guest editors and conflicts
Guest editors organize and commission; the decision on any individual manuscript rests with the journal's editors.
Editors recuse themselves from decisions on their own submissions; those manuscripts are handled independently. A guest editor's own submission to their own collection is handled by an editor outside that collection.
Scope
A collection sits inside the journal's remit rather than extending it. The boundary is the one set out in Aims and Scope.
Sending a proposal
Write to the editorial office with the proposal; a manuscript for an agreed collection is then submitted through the journal's ordinary routes.

The editorial office responds with the journal's view on fit and on the proposed timetable.
Manuscripts
Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.
