Ulcer Diseases, Buruli

Ulcer diseases, such as Buruli, are caused by bacteria, Mycobacterium ulcerans. These bacteria can damage the skin and underlying tissue, leading to skin sores, ulcers, and sometimes disfigurement. Buruli ulcer is a public health problem in many tropical and subtropical countries, including parts of Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Treatment of Buruli ulcer is a complex process, and early diagnosis and management are important. Treatment typically involves a combination of antibiotics and surgery. Without prompt diagnosis and treatment, the ulcers can cause permanent disability, infection, and disfigurement.
